Security & data handling

What we collect when you ask for quotes, who can see it, and how we look after it. Written in plain English.

Last updated · 6 July 2026 UK GDPR · DPA 2018

Asking for conveyancing quotes means trusting us with your contact details and some facts about your move. This page explains, in plain terms, how Surged Ltd (trading as MoveGuide) handles that information. It is a summary, not a replacement for the full Privacy Notice. For the checks firms pass before they can quote you, see how we vet firms.

1. What we collect from movers

We collect what we need to generate your quotes, and no more:

Move details: postcode, property price, and whether you're buying, selling or remortgaging.
Contact details: your name, email address and phone number.
Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, and how you use the site.

We don't ask for bank details or identity documents. If you instruct a firm, it will run its own identity checks under its own privacy policy.

2. Who can see your details

Only the firms that quote you. We cap how many firms receive each enquiry, and your details go to those firms alone so they can prepare a quote. We never sell your personal data. The only other parties that handle it are the providers that run our platform, such as hosting and email delivery, and they work under data-processing agreements.

3. Our legal basis

We process your data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our lawful bases are consent, when you ask us to share your details with firms; legitimate interests, for running and improving the service; and legal obligation, for record-keeping and fraud prevention. You can withdraw consent at any time. Your rights, including access, correction and deletion, are set out in the Privacy Notice.

4. How firms access your data

Firms receive enquiries inside a secure partner portal, behind individual logins. Each firm can only see the enquiries sent to it, never anyone else's. Traffic to the site and the portal is encrypted in transit. If a firm connects its own case-management system, leads are delivered over encrypted, signed connections.

5. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry data only as long as the service needs it, typically up to 24 months after your last interaction. After that it is deleted or anonymised. Some records, such as invoices, must be kept longer to meet legal and accounting rules.

6. Contact us

Questions about your data, or want it corrected or removed? Email us and a real person will reply.
